Mathematics warm-up
Ask your child to show or explain how they know. A reasonable strategy matters as much as getting to the answer.
- A shelf has 6 rows of 4 books. How many books are there? Show another way to see the same multiplication.
- Estimate 298 + 407, then find the exact sum.
- A pizza is cut into 8 equal pieces. Three pieces are eaten. What fraction remains?
- Maya has $10.00 and buys something for $6.35. How much money remains?
- A graph shows 7 children chose apples, 5 chose bananas, and 3 chose oranges. How many children were surveyed?
Parent answer guide
- 24 books. For example, 6 × 4 = 24; the same array can also show 4 × 6 = 24.
- Estimate about 700; exact answer 705.
- 5/8 remains. Eight equal pieces minus three eaten leaves five.
- $3.65 remains.
- 15 children. 7 + 5 + 3 = 15.
If an answer is wrong, ask “What did you notice?” before correcting it.
