Mathematics warm-up
Ask your child to show or explain how they know. A reasonable strategy matters as much as getting to the answer.
- Put −4, 1.5, 0, and −1 in order from least to greatest.
- Write 0.35 as a fraction and as a percent.
- A recipe uses 3/4 cup of oats. You make half the recipe. How much oats do you need?
- A rectangular box is 6 cm long, 4 cm wide, and 3 cm high. What is its volume?
- A store reduces a $60 item by 25%. What is the sale price? Explain your calculation.
Parent answer guide
- −4, −1, 0, 1.5.
- 35/100 and 35%. 0.35 means thirty-five hundredths.
- 3/8 cup. Half of 3/4 is 3/8.
- 72 cm³. 6 × 4 × 3 = 72.
- $45. Twenty-five percent of $60 is $15, so $60 − $15 = $45.
If an answer is wrong, ask “What did you notice?” before correcting it.
