Two-digit multiplication

What they’re learning

Your child is multiplying two-digit whole numbers using area models, partial products, or efficient algorithms. Understanding the partial products helps prevent place-value errors.

Explain it to my child

For 23 × 14, break 14 into 10 + 4: 23 × 10 = 230 and 23 × 4 = 92. Add them to get 322.

Try it together

Draw rectangles on grid paper for problems such as 18 × 24. Split 24 into 20 + 4 and label each partial rectangle before adding the areas.
