Your child is learning that fractions, decimals, and percents are different ways to describe part of the same whole. Connecting the forms helps with estimation, comparison, money, and everyday problems.
Explain it to my child
One half, 0.5, and 50% all describe the same amount. “Percent” means out of 100, so 50% means 50 out of 100, which is one half.
Try it together
Use 100 small objects, a hundred chart, or $1.00 in coins. Show 25 out of 100 and connect 25/100, 0.25, and 25%. Then try 50% and 75%.

- Write 1/2 as a decimal and a percent.
- Write 0.25 as a fraction out of 100 and as a percent.
- Which is greater: 0.6 or 55%?
- Write 3/4 as a decimal and a percent.
- A $20 item is 50% off. How much is the discount?
