What they’re learning
Your child is learning that biodiversity means the variety of living things in an area and the variety within groups of living things. They consider how organisms are classified, how living things interact, and why biodiversity matters.
Explain it to my child
Biodiversity means having many different kinds of living things. A place with many kinds of plants, insects, birds, and other organisms has more biodiversity than a place with very few kinds.
Try it together
Choose a small outdoor area or look at a nature photo. Make a simple tally of the different kinds of living things you can observe. Do not collect or disturb them. Compare two areas and discuss which appears more diverse and why.
